Is it October yet?

The 2011-2012 campaign has just ended, which means the long and tedious wait for next season has begun. Now, you can choose to be sad for the next couple of months. Or, you can look forward to what is coming.

Today, the NHL released its schedule for the 2012-2013 season, and the regular season action is set to begin on October 11th. Eight of the league’s 30 teams will be on the ice, so let’s take a look at who it will be.

*** One side note: the Los Angeles Kings will drop their championship banner on October 12th when they host the New York Rangers at Staples Center.***

Ottawa Senators at. Montreal Canadiens

Regular season finish: OTT — 8th in East (41-31-10), MON — 15th in East (31-35-16)

Regular season series: 4-2 in favor of the Canadiens

Boston Bruins at. Philadelphia Flyers

Regular season finish: BOS — 2nd in East (49-29-4), PHI — 5th in East (47-26-9)

Regular season series: 3-1 in favor of the Bruins

Vancouver Canucks at. Calgary Flames

Regular season finish: VAN — 1st in West (51-22-9), CGY — 9th in West (37-29-16)

Regular season series: 3-3 (Rivals out of the Northwest Division)

St. Louis Blues at. Colorado Avalanche

Regular season finish: STL — 2nd in West (49-22-11), COL — 11th in West (41-35-6)

Regular season series: 2-2 (home team won all four games)
