The problem with having but one series left in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is that the schedule isn’t as filled as it was over the past couple of weeks. There is no way of solving this issue, of course, and it’s just something that we have to live with, as the the New Jersey Devils, Phoenix Coyotes and Los Angeles Kings dispatched their opponents so quickly.
The result is that hockey fans are left without a game for two consecutive nights. It’s not the worst thing in the world, of course. We’ll have to get used to it when there is only one series being played (i.e., the Cup Finals) and then the offseason. The only people that should really worry about this delay are probably the New Jersey Devils. Who will they play next round? How will they stay sharp after having so many days off?
One person who doesn’t mind the days off is Washington goalie Braden Holtby. He became a father Thursday morning.
