NHL Playoff Matchups

The seeding in the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs have finally been set after a wild day in the league yesterday. A number of teams had the chance to improve — or hurt — their place in the standings, so let’s take a look at where everything stands now.
Also, just for clarification, this article serves only as a listing of the playoff matchups. In the next couple of days I’ll have much more detailed previews of all eight series in the first round.
Eastern Conference
8. Ottawa Senators vs 1. New York Rangers
- Ottawa slipped to the 8th spot in the standings after they were defeated and the Capitals won last night.
- Ottawa won the season series, 3-1.
7. Washington Capitals vs 2. Boston Bruins
- Washington snuck into the 7th spot following the aforementioned Ottawa defeat on Saturday. But, they came up just short of winning the Southeast Division.
- Washington won the season series, 3-1.
6. New Jersey Devils vs 3. Florida Panthers
- Florida won the Southeast Division by a couple of points after beating the Hurricanes at home last night.
- Season series is tied, 2-2.
5. Philadelphia Flyers vs 4. Pittsburgh Penguins
- Philadelphia leads the season series, 4-2.
Western Conference
8. Los Angeles Kings vs 1. Vancouver Canucks
- Los Angeles slipped to 8th following a tough defeat at the hands of the Sharks last night. Coming into that game, the Kings had a chance to win the Pacific — obviously didn’t do that.
- Season series is tied, 2-2.
7. San Jose Sharks vs 2. St. Louis Blues
- As I just mentioned, the Sharks had a big win over the Kings last night that lifted them into the 7th spot in the postseason.
- St. Louis won the season series, 4-0.
6. Chicago Blackhawks vs 3. Phoenix Coyotes
- The Coyotes won the Pacific Division yesterday for the first time in the clubs history — a truly fantastic development.
- Phoenix won the season series, 3-1.
5. Detroit Red Wings vs 4. Nashville Predators
- Season series is tied, 3-3.
