On a day when almost every team in the league came back from the All Star break, a preseason game in October was on the minds of many on Long Island.

The New Jersey Nets are building an arena, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and would most likely be interested in another tenant somewhere down the road. The New York Islanders (and New Jersey Devils) are going to make an appearance on October 2nd to check the place out.

The Islanders are in a tough spot, one that eventually becomes untenable for any professional sports franchise. They play in a city (or county) owned arena, and thereby don’t take in all the revenue, and don’t have any leverage in getting improvements.

So, even though this is just a game in the preseason between the Islanders and Devils, it’s surely a good way to send a message to the politicians in Nassau County. The Islanders have a place to go if they don’t get what they want.  The Barclays Center will want them, and just might end up with the Islanders.
